A weight loss plan that doesn't include teaching about the feelings and needs inventory are bound to fail!
Without this information you cant sort out why you want to eat without hunger or beyond fullness.
This is again another one of those missing pieces that explains why most people who try to diet regain all the weight they lose and become yo-yo dieters.
If you can't identify what you are feeling and needing, especially if you want to eat without hunger or beyond fullness, you will never get out of the rabbit hole.
I find that any weight loss plan that misses this very important piece is not empowering you to do well.
Remember, if you have ever practiced eating without hunger or beyond fullness it was generally one of three things.
1. You had a belief about your body, weight, food or the world, that drove you to eat without hunger. It tricked you!
2. You had a feeling you didn't know how to distinguish from belly hunger or didn't want to feel or didn't know what to do with it.
3. You had a need pushing you that didn't identify and had nothing to do with belly hunger.
When you think you are hungry....touch your belly and ask yourself..."Am I hungry in my belly?" If you are not sure but want to eat anyway it is probably one of the three things I mentioned above.
Traditional Weight loss plans miss this all the time!
So you determine you may not be hungry in the belly, then you ask with fascination......
"What could I be believing, feeling or needing"?
To figure out what you might be feeling quickly use the Feelings inventory and see what you might be feeling.
Negative feelings always point to a need , so you will also want to look at "The Universal Needs List after you figure out the need.
Feelings Inventories
Negative emotions are your signal that a need is not getting met, or that you are thinking/believing something that may or may not be true.
Identify exactly what you are feeling first using the Feelings inventory page. Then
identify what need you have using the page called The Universal Needs Inventory.
I call this list the Holy Universal Needs list because we are ALL hard wired to need ALL the things on the list. So often we don't have those needs getting met so we eat. Mistake! It doesn't really meet the need, then you have the food in your body to deal with.
The following
are words we use when we want to express a combination of emotional states and
physical sensations. You must become the expert at knowing what you are feeling, use the list don't guess.
This list is neither exhaustive nor definitive. This list is
meant as a starting place to support anyone who wishes to engage in a process
of deepening self-discovery and to facilitate greater understanding of the feelings that indicate a need in yourself that is not being met and that is one of the mane reasons why you eat when you are not hungry or you overeat.
